A story for the Museum
Acropolis Museum
It took a long 35 years and 4 competitions for the designation of the plot, draft of designs and subsequent laying of the foundations in the Makrygianni neighborhood in 2009.The first Acropolis Museum was built to the south-east of the Parthenon in 1874 by architect Panagis Kalkos. However, despite the repeated expansions of the original building, it could not accommodate the complete findings after the excavations of 1890. A relocation was essential, and thus followed four architectural competitions till 2000, when the concluding one set the future of the New Museum.
