Pythia of the prophesies
The Apollo Temple
Pythia, a 50 year old woman, who was renowned for her honesty and virtue was the High Priestess of the god Apollo at the Delphic oracle. Apollo offered his guidance on the seventh day of every month to the messengers of the faithful and to all believers searching for an indication on how to lead their family, their army, their city, and their lives. But a prophecy was not the only thing they were looking for. Every nine years, and later on every four years, the city of Delphi organized the famous Pythia, a great festival to honor Apollo and celebrate his victory against the dreadful monster Python, for the title to the land. Τhe music and later the athletic and equestrian competitions established the Pythia as one of the most important national festivals after the Olympic Games.
