The Knopf Family
The Knopf Family
Hans, the youngest, was very attached to his father. He remembers how he liked to sleep in his father’s arms and could still feel how his father’s moustache tickled him while they slept. Hans was named after the character in the story Hans Guck in die Luft (Hans Look in the Air) because his head was always in the clouds. Once he even fell under a tram in the Voigtei. Luckily, nothing happened to him. When the situation in Nazi Germany became more and more dangerous for Jews, the Knopfs decided to emigrate to England, where they already had relatives. However, it took a long time to get all of the necessary papers. Therefore, after the November Pogrom on November 9, 1938, the parents sent their children, Erna, Max, Lasar, Salli and Hans to England with a Kindertransport so that at least they were sure to be safe. When the situation in Nazi Germany became more and more dangerous for Jews, the Knopfs decided to emigrate to England, where they already had relatives. We now continue to Judenstraße, where the Edelnand family lived.
