Jewish Merchant Club – 28, Revolyutsionnaya Street
At 26, Koidanovskaya Street (now a residential building on 28, Revolyutsionnaya Street), there once was a 10-room hotel “Kupecheskaya '' by A. Yelsky. A Jewish Merchant Club operated at this hotel, and from 1921 to 1937, the building housed Jewish school №30. In fact, in those days numerous Jewish schools were located throughout the city, as the majority of the population of Minsk was Jewish. In 1937, the Soviet reorganization of all Jewish schools into Russian and Belarusian ones began. Yiddish turned into an outcast language, and all Yiddish-language cultural institutions along with Jewish creative unions were abolished, newspapers and magazines printing in Yiddish were closed. By the beginning of 1940, not a single Jewish institution remained on Revolyutsionnaya Street.
