The stone church
Peta
The heart of Peta is a public square with all the features of a typical Greek village square. There is a magnificent old tree, coffee shops, and the main church that impresses the visitor with its size and beauty. The stone edifice was built in 1850 to replace the 1765 church that was burned down during the battle of Peta. The surrounding lanes are named after the Philhellenes who fought for Greek independence and each street sign is a small encyclopedia entry. The monument of the battle is at the highest point of the village and offers spectacular views to the plain of Arta and the surrounding verdant hills. The decoration or the ambiance of the coffee shops near the monument is an added bonus.
