A Renaissance Modernist
Timeline
Water, wind, light, and sound are the most prominent elements recurring in his work. He experimented with new technologies, tools and media, and his preliminary studies were absolutely detailed and well-documented with multiple drawings, even instructions on how one should bolt down a tiny screw. Zongolopoulos created his sculptures combining an architect’s scientific procedure with the sensitivity of an artist who envisions a better world.
During an interview, Zongolopoulos said: “What is sculpture today, anyway? What are these large-scale constructions? It is architecture. You can’t create large-scale sculpture if it does not entail architecture.”
